That point when you realize you’re no longer a part of the “in crowd”
“In the last days perilous times will come For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power…”1
So I had a chance to see a recent awards show. Now in typical awards fashion, it was a bit over the top. However, this wasn’t in the usual extravagant clothing, décor, etc. This was over the top in terms of the void of any knowledge of God. (I’d like to pause here and just note that the word secular simply means godless and/or pertaining to worldly things.) I completely understand that when I watch an awards show I am not watching a religious program. However, this particular experience reminded of something that I had been pondering for the last couple of years: “Pop culture no longer acknowledged our God”
Even if it was only in ‘form’ I can recall a time when people who weren’t religious would at least acknowledge the presence of GOD. (I was born in ’79 btw) We wouldn’t cuss around preachers or your friend’s momma who went to church. We wouldn’t gamble, smoke, etc. in front of a church. We would even try to ‘act’ different on Sundays. Remember that? Well we are now living (and have been for some time) in a time where people no longer “…retain God in their knowledge”2. The result of which is people “…being given over to a [reduced] way of thinking…”2
Let’s get back to this awards show. From the immodesty of the clothing to the blasphemous things that were said it was clear and apparent:
People no longer intend on exercising any restraint.
But even more surprising than this behavior is how shocked & appalled man believers were at it.
There were stories of Christian artists who abruptly left the show and others who didn’t go at all. Even still there were those who stood by on the sides and lobbed verbal grenades on Twitter and Facebook. Now none of this should shock you. For one these things were written & spoken about centuries ago. But even if you want to disregard that, look at the trends in the prevailing culture. Now I don’t intend on going over social trends here all you need to do is check out your favorite social media network. It is in our nature to be “Anti-God.” For all my technology people, to be against God is our default setting. We were only able to suppress it for so long. What is in our nature individually will eventually come out and not we are seeing it on large scale. This is why in order to mature your nature must change. (This is true is most things)
If I travel to the Far East, I should not be astonished that they eat with chopsticks and not with a knife and fork. Or travel to other parts of the world and they may eat with their hands. That is the nature of their culture, why would I expect anything different? So the problem isn’t with them, it is with me and my “…lack of knowledge”3.
There are many believers who do not realize the times in which we live. And if they do, they do not know what to do in these times. Rather than looking for some shadowy figure ushering in some new world order or the illuminati, we should discern that “…The spirit of the antichrist…is now already in the world”4
Just like the sons of Issachar in times past, those who do know will be few in number. In order to combat counterfeit currency people are trained on the aspects and nature of the real. In order that I am not swept up in the tides of the prevailing culture I need to fully immersed within the real, because there is more to come. We went from being respected to now merely being tolerated (for the sake of political correctness). To be a believer in this current moment in time is to be seen as an ‘extremist’. But make no mistake, there will come a time were we will pushed to the point of extinction.
“Then they will [persecute] you and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake”5
So don’t be shocked, just become more acquainted with the real (Psst, the real is a Person).
